Kiwanis club members worldwide host around 150,000 service projects and complete 18.5 million service hours a year. Every year, Kiwanis clubs raise more than US$100 million to support different causes at the local level – in addition to supporting our Kiwanis International Children’s Fund.

Our Projects and Outreach

Kiwanis Terrific Kids

Our Terrific Kids program is currently engaging students in character-building activities at Glenwood Springs and Sopris Elementary Schools.  The program focuses on character traits shown to foster lifelong success including cooperation, empathy, determination, problem-solving, etc.  Students are recognized each month for their achievement in a specific trait. Working through school staff, the program helps create an environment supportive of all students.

High School Service Clubs

We sponsor Key Clubs at Glenwood Springs and Basalt High Schools.  These student-led service clubs provide opportunities for student members to provide valuable service to their community while developing leadership skills essential to future success. Key Club projects have included raising funds for UNICEF, collecting food and clothes for needy families, participating in Bike Safety programs, holding pancake breakfasts and car washes to fund local and international activities.

Scholarships

Four and two year scholarships are offered by our club to students at Glenwood and Basalt High Schools.  A major criteria for recipients is their record of community service in addition to academic achievement and career goals.

Story Walk at Gregory Park

Kiwanis has partnered with Two Rivers Charter School and Garfield County Libraries to build and maintain Story Boards that display bilingual literature written and illustrated by students from the school.  An on-going project, the new stories are written annually and placed in the Boards.  Visit Gregory Park in West Glenwood and admire the students’ amazing creations.

WindWalkers Equine Therapy

Kiwanis is proud to support WindWalkers Equine Therapy Center.  WindWalkers is an equine assisted learning and therapy center in Missouri Heights providing a variety of equine assisted therapies to aid in the development and growth of those with challenges, be they physical, emotional, behavioral, or psychological.  Kiwanis provides WindWalkers financial support and several hundred hours of volunteer hours of service annually.
